My landmark is the West Point Museum in West Point, New York. This landmark is important to me because my ancestors have parts dedicated to them, and it is near where my mother was born. I have made the outline of the building with the thin nib and I plan to make the all the lines facing left outlined in the broad nib to make it look shaded. I will also draw on little thin lines for texture. I like working with the ink because it makes less friction with the paper and makes making straight lines easier.
This is my completed painting. My favorite part of the painting is the sky. I like how it there are a lot of lighter and darker spots. I also like the shading with the ink. It turned out a lot better than I expected.

The Beach by Rebecca
My landmark for the project is Wildwood Beach in New Jersey. It is located in the part of the state that my family and I go to every summer. We have a beach house down there. My family and our family friends go down there and spend time together mostly every summer. I plan to outline my drawing with the fine ink strokes and water color it. I will add some textural effects with the water color paint to make the sand look more like they are different levels. While using the ink, I liked how the tips of the ink pens created such fine lines.
My favorite part of this painting was the color of the sand. I think i was able to portray the image of the beach better than i thought. I like how the sky looks like the clouds are layered. I think I chose my colors well. The water was not in a straight line and did not turn out how i wanted it to, but I think the dark blue bordering the water and the sky was made darker to show the difference.
The Big Ben by Anais
For this project my landmark was The Big Ben. The Big Ben is located in
London, England. I like the Big Ben because it is an unique landmark
that is well known throughout the world. It is important to me because I
visited London with my family when I was very little, and it is one of
the only vacations I remember from when I was a toddler. To improve my
drawing, I plan to make the lines of my drawing appear straighter and
outline the clock on the building and the windows on the neighboring
building with the ink. I also plan to add use a lot of different colors
to give the building a more interesting look. I liked working with the
ink because it made my drawing appear bolder. It also made each line
stand out more than it did before.
My favorite part of my finished painting, is the sky. I like the color variations of it and how its very unique, it's not just blue. On the top it has a little yellow and black too. I think I colored the side buildings and the Big Ben well. I really like how it came out. It looks a lot better with the water color on it. The lines also look bold, yet the buildings stand out from the bold colors.

New York View by Emma
The name of my piece is the New York View. This landmark is important to me because I love the City, and some of my family lives there. I applied the ink to the buildings in my painting because it will make them stand out in the horizon. To enhance my painting, I have to start watercolor painting the sun set sky and the water. I enjoyed working with the ink because it was really cool to use the calligraphy pens and it was fun to color in the buildings.
The thing I love most about my "New York View" is the sunset. I love the different colors I used. I think i made it look really cool. The only thing that I wish was different about the sky is that the colors blended in a little bit more, that there weren't that many lines. I tried to blend them in but they turned into muddy brown colors; it looked really bad. I also wish that the ocean turned out a little differently. It was really hard to get the right purple color I needed to make it look like the one in the picture, not because I wanted it to be the same, but because I really liked that color. The last thing I wish was different were the red light reflecting on the ocean. It was really hard to get it right but I tried my best. I really think that my ink job completes my painting. I am really proud of my work :).

Latvian Freedom Monument by Daria
My landmark for the project is the Freedom Statue in Riga, Latvia. This statue represents my family's ancestral life and the history of my heritage. I plan to outline my drawing with fine ink strokes. To enhance my work, I can think about the perspective of the photograph, and the color scheme used. While using the ink, I liked how the tips can create fine, flowing lines that enhance the art piece.
Western Wall by Tara
The Western Wall Jerusalem, Israel
This landmark is important to me and my family because we are very religious and this is a big part of Jewish history. We visit the western wall usually once a year every time we travel to Israel. This picture of my landmark is only half-complete. I have not yet finished inking the silhouettes of the men praying in front of the wall. I plan to fill the items in front of the wall in with black, so the main focus is on the wall. I will paint the wall with a creme color like in the picture, and add color to show texture. I am going to try and enhance the authenticity of my watercolor but continuing to draw the lines uneven, because the tiles in the wall are not all exactly parallel and perfect to each other. I enjoyed working with the ink; it was a new experience and i think it will be helpful to use in future artwork of mine.
In my painting of the western wall, I think I blended the colors in the wall and the tiled floor well but it was really hard to show the texture. During the process of painting this is, I spilled ink on my page and there is a mark left over, but it is not that noticeable and I also think I did a good job with covering it. I could have fixed the dirt and mold that I painted in the cracks in between the tiles because it is not really clear what they are. Also, I should have drawn something else as a silhouette in front of the wall. Overall, it was really fun to work on this project and I am satisfied with my painting.
Beach by Sophie
My landmark for the project is a beach in East Hampton, NY. This is a beach which I go to every summer and have a house there. So many memories have been created there. I still go there mostly every weekend through out the year. I plan to only use ink for my chair, towel and flip flops and only that. Also I plan to use water color for my sand, water, towel and chair. I will mostly use colors and mix them together and not just have solid color on my paper. I did kind of enjoy using ink but I did not like the messiness of it.
My favorite part of my painting by far is my sunset. I really like how my colors go together really well and they complement each other. The blue part which seems like ocean is actually sand. It is blue it is a reflection on the sand. It is very unique that it is blue and some people don't realize that it is sand but I like it like that. It makes my painting different. In my picture there were actually two chairs, no beach towel and no flip flops. I added those things in. I think it really makes my painting realistic. At first i was not happy with my painting but now i am very satisfied. Over all i am very proud of my painting.
The London Eye by Cami
My landmark for the project is the London Eye in London, England. This landmark is important to me because my family loves London and had a great time when we were there. I feel that the London Eye is a very good representative of London. I would like to apply ink to the outline of the London Eye as well as the outline of all of the buildings. To enhance my work, I am going to add a little bit more detail to the shape of the Eye and make it look super realistic. I think that the ink is really fun to work with. It is a new art technique that I have never used before and I had a good time with it. It is very cool and I think it it is a very intense addition to the art work.
I am very proud of my final painting. I am very happy that I was able to put detail into it because I was very nervous in the beginning since the picture looked very complex. My favorite part of my painting is how it is like a silhouette, it makes the sunset look very intense. I had a lot of fun with this project. It was really fun to be able to use the ink and it was fun to experiment with the water color and use fun and bright colors. I liked being able to paint something that was important to me because it made it all the more special. Enjoy!

Hendrick's Head by Ali
This is Hendrick's Head Lighthouse in Southport Island, ME. This is important to me and my family because when I sail in the summer everyday, I pass by this lighthouse every time I am on the water. My work is split in panels because the original picture is very detailed and I wanted to work on the most important parts. I am going to ink on the contour of each panel, but not the actual lines that split the paper into panels. I am not drawing every detail because the watercolor will contain most of the detail and color. I like working with ink because it makes the piece cleaner.
This is my finished painting of Hendrick's Head Lighthouse on Southport Island, Maine. I think I did well on my piece. I altered the colors from the original picture a little bit. I think my piece is cool because I did it differently. I made my piece into 4 panels so I can capture each part of the lighthouse. I like the pop of colors of the roof on the building and the happy, relaxed colors I used in my panels. My colors compliment each other and work very well. I kept my ink simple so I can use a lot of nice color. I am pretty proud of my piece.

Watch Hill by Caroline
My landmark for the project is a light house in Watch Hill, Rhode Island. It is the location of my beach house so it has wonderful memories for me. I go here every summer for a long period of time and it is truly a second home to me. I applied the ink in a way that shows texture to the buildings, using the thin and thick point to show the feel of the picture. I want to paint my work and add color to make it look real. I also want to add ocean and the waves to make it look like summer and like a true light house. I loved working with the ink because it put a new and artistic spin on my picture. I had never done it before so I thought it was a really cool experience and would like to do it again sometime in the future.
I was very pleased how my landmark came out. My favorite part was the colors and how bright they were and how well they complimented each other. I also liked the waves going over the rocks and the way it was blended. I had a good time doing water colors and was very pleased how it came out!
Newport Beach by Joanne
My landmark for the project is Newport Beach, in California. This beach is located near where my dad used to live and used to go to college UCLA. This is important to me because every summer or break from school we always do Newport Beach with my cousins and always have fun. I don't think that Newport Beach is that important to California but it is important to my family and I because we always go there during the summer or whenever we have time. I used the thin point ink pen to make the lines for the ocean waves and the skinny poles on the railing of the boarder. Also I used the thick ink pen to do the bridge and the lines on the bottom and the poles that hold the bridge up. I enjoyed using the ink because it was my first time using it and it was very fun to use a new tool instead of just a pencil and eraser.
I think that I did well with matching the colors because they come together nicely. Also I think that I did pretty well on the inking but I could of done it a little neater with the X's on the bottom of the boardwalk. I think that while I was doing inking I could of also done a neater job on the railing and poles on the boardwalk. My favorite part of the painting is the water because there are three different colors and they look so clean and they are so vibrant so that stands out to me the most.
Archway of the Palazzo Ducale by Nicole
This is the Archway of the Palazzo Ducale in Italy. This landmark is important to me because it is in Italy, and I am Italian. With the ink, I made the floor and the closer part of the picture thick to make it stand out more and make it seem bigger, and I used the smaller one to make the windows and the farther part of the picture to make it look further away. I liked dipping the pens in the ink and using the different tips. I also liked how it made the work look very finished and neat.
I think portrayed the scene well and I did the inking neatly. My favorite part is seeing the sky at the end of the hall. I think I could've done the water color for the sky neater, though.

Anguilla by Kendall
This is a picture of the beach that I go to in Anguilla. Anguilla is an island that my family and I go to, it is in the Caribbean. This island is very important to me because my family goes there almost every year. We have been there about five times. We love going there and it is very important to my family because we have been there so much, it is kind of like a second home to us. I applied the ink on my paper where I did, on the dark, bold, and important places. I did it on the palm tree leaves, the ocean horizon, and the buildings in the background. The buildings in the background is actually the buildings of my hotel, the Cuisinart. I have swam in that ocean about fifty times, and the leaves are the main focus of my picture, so I thought that those three things should be in ink because people will see those when they look at my painting. Also, the shadows, sky, beach, and water are lighter colors so they shouldn't be that dark. I think that really the next thing that I can do to my painting would be to paint it. I really liked working with ink because it was a brand new experience for me and I've always thought that ink is a very cool thing.

I am very proud of this turnout of this painting. My favorite part is the leaves, the ocean, the sand, and the clouds. I think that this really does look like the Anguilla, the island that I was trying. This painting turned out exactly how I wanted it to.
Statue of Liberty by Lucy
My landmark is the Statue of Liberty, outside of Manhattan in NYC. It is located on an island outside of the city, and is an important symbol of freedom and liberty in America. This landmark is important to me because my grandfather was an immigrant from the former Czechoslovakia. I used a thin point for most of the details in the drawing. I used a broader tip for the dark shadows and the door on the balcony. I will be using gray watercolors for the clouds in the background, and I want to finish the shadows in the base of the statue with a thick nib. I liked working with the ink because it is a medium that I usually don't get to use.
My favorite part of this finished painting is the head and face of the statue because the shadows look very interesting. I also think that the shading and the colors of the skirt on the toga look realistic. I used a lot of water to make thin washes that make up the color and I built on them after each layer dried.

Turks and Caicos by Sofia
My picture is of a spa in the Regent Palms resort in Turks and Caicos. This landmark is important because I really like it and Turks and Caicos is one of my favorite places to go. I just applied the ink based on the photograph that I am copying. I think that I can add a little more shading with the ink. I really liked working with the ink because it was very easy to use, and I like the way it looks.
I think the perspective of the walls came out really well. I like how the shading turned out, and the pops of color with the red, and the green. The sky looks really good in the background with the color of the walls. Originally in the picture, the walls were a different color, they were more of a gray and black. I like the way i changed the wall color i think it looks better than it did in the picture. I am very happy with the way my picture turned out.
