 SUMMER BEACH
My landmark is a beach in East Hampton, this landmark is significant to me because every summer me and my family go out to the Hamptons and we basically go swimming everyday so that's why I chose a beach. I have not used much inking on this picture and I am not planing on using a lot. Possibly just going over the balcony(the lines in the front that look like a fence but it's not) and the bridge, or possibly make some ridges in the ocean. For the sand and plants I would probably use plan colors such as some faint greens and peachy beige sand. The sky and the ocean would probably be much brighter.

I am satisfied with my picture, I messed up a bit in parts but overall it turned out a lot better than I thought it would, considering the mistakes. I really like my plants and sky(the sky is cut off a bit). I do think I could add more plants to the right side and more details on the sand in general. Also the shadows on the balcony could be more neat.

The West Point Museum by Daphne

My landmark is the West Point Museum in West Point, New York. This landmark is important to me because my ancestors have parts dedicated to them, and it is near where my mother was born. I have made the outline of the building with the thin nib and I plan to make the all the lines facing left outlined in the broad nib to make it look shaded. I will also draw on little thin lines for texture. I like working with the ink because it makes less friction with the paper and makes making straight lines easier.

This is my completed painting. My favorite part of the painting is the sky. I like how it there are a lot of lighter and darker spots. I also like the shading with the ink. It turned out a lot better than I expected.

The Beach by Rebecca

My landmark for the project is Wildwood Beach in New Jersey. It is located in the part of the state that my family and I go to every summer. We have a beach house down there. My family and our family friends go down there and spend time together mostly every summer. I plan to outline my drawing with the fine ink strokes and water color it. I will add some textural effects with the water color paint to make the sand look more like they are different levels. While using the ink, I liked how the tips of the ink pens created such fine lines.

My favorite part of this painting was the color of the sand. I think i was able to portray the image of the beach better than i thought. I like how the sky looks like the clouds are layered. I think I chose my colors well. The water was not in a straight line and did not turn out how i wanted it to, but I think the dark blue bordering the water and the sky was made darker to show the difference.

The Big Ben by Anais

For this project my landmark was The Big Ben. The Big Ben is located in London, England. I like the Big Ben because it is an unique landmark that is well known throughout the world. It is important to me because I visited London with my family when I was very little, and it is one of the only vacations I remember from when I was a toddler. To improve my drawing, I plan to make the lines of my drawing appear straighter and outline the clock on the building and the windows on the neighboring building with the ink. I also plan to add use a lot of different colors to give the building a more interesting look. I liked working with the ink because it made my drawing appear bolder. It also made each line stand out more than it did before.
My favorite part of my finished painting, is the sky. I like the color variations of it and how its very unique, it's not just blue. On the top it has a little yellow and black too. I think I colored the side buildings and the Big Ben well. I really like how it came out. It looks a lot better with the water color on it. The lines also look bold, yet the buildings stand out from the bold colors.

New York View by Emma

The name of my piece is the New York View. This landmark is important to me because I love the City, and some of my family lives there. I applied the ink to the buildings in my painting because it will make them stand out in the horizon. To enhance my painting, I have to start watercolor painting the sun set sky and the water. I enjoyed working with the ink because it was really cool to use the calligraphy pens and it was fun to color in the buildings.

The thing I love most about my "New York View" is the sunset. I love the different colors I used. I think i made it look really cool. The only thing that I wish was different about the sky is that the colors blended in a little bit more, that there weren't that many lines. I tried to blend them in but they turned into muddy brown colors; it looked really bad. I also wish that the ocean turned out a little differently. It was really hard to get the right purple color I needed to make it look like the one in the picture, not because I wanted it to be the same, but because I really liked that color. The last thing I wish was different were the red light reflecting on the ocean. It was really hard to get it right but I tried my best. I really think that my ink job completes my painting. I am really proud of my work :).

Latvian Freedom Monument by Daria

My landmark for the project is the Freedom Statue in Riga, Latvia. This statue represents my family's ancestral life and the history of my heritage. I plan to outline my drawing with fine ink strokes. To enhance my work, I can think about the perspective of the photograph, and the color scheme used. While using the ink, I liked how the tips can create fine, flowing lines that enhance the art piece.

What I think I did well in this watercolor painting is the way I used to water color to create dimension. The stars have a variety of colors and the sky has different shades to create clouds. I like how I left the body of the statue light and calm without much detail and only a clear outline. By having the stars and the concrete base full of strong color and detail, it shows the significance of the statue itself; the freedom and liberty of Latvia.

Western Wall by Tara

The Western Wall Jerusalem, Israel
This landmark is important to me and my family because we are very religious and this is a big part of Jewish history. We visit the western wall usually once a year every time we travel to Israel. This picture of my landmark is only half-complete. I have not yet finished inking the silhouettes of the men praying in front of the wall. I plan to fill the items in front of the wall in with black, so the main focus is on the wall. I will paint the wall with a creme color like in the picture, and add color to show texture. I am going to try and enhance the authenticity of my watercolor but continuing to draw the lines uneven, because the tiles in the wall are not all exactly parallel and perfect to each other. I enjoyed working with the ink; it was a new experience and i think it will be helpful to use in future artwork of mine.

In my painting of the western wall, I think I blended the colors in the wall and the tiled floor well but it was really hard to show the texture. During the process of painting this is, I spilled ink on my page and there is a mark left over, but it is not that noticeable and  I also think I did a good job with covering it. I could have fixed the dirt and mold that I painted in the cracks in between the tiles because it is not really clear what they are. Also, I should have drawn something else as a silhouette in front of the wall. Overall, it was really fun to work on this project and I am satisfied with my painting.
